Pre-Engineered Metal Building Foundation Design
The metal building manufacturer designs the steel. Someone still has to design what it sits on. Rise Structural Group provides complete foundation design for pre-engineered metal buildings across Pittsburgh, western and central Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and western Maryland.
What we provide
- Sealed foundation drawings and calculations for permit and construction
- Spread footings and piers sized for the manufacturer’s column reactions, including uplift and horizontal thrust
- Hairpins, tie rods or grade beams to resist frame thrust, selected to suit the slab and the site
- Reinforced concrete stem walls, frost walls and strip footings
- Slabs on grade designed for forklift, racking, athletic or equipment loads
- Anchor rod layout and embedment coordinated with the building manufacturer’s anchor bolt plan
- Foundations for mezzanines, cranes, equipment pads and interior partitions inside the building
How the process works
We start with the manufacturer’s reaction package and anchor bolt plan, the site geotechnical report if one exists, and the architectural plan. If there is no geotechnical report, we design to presumptive bearing values allowed by the code and say so on the drawings. Most PEMB foundation packages are turned around in two to three weeks from receipt of final reactions, and we coordinate directly with the building dealer so the anchor bolts, base plates and slab are set correctly the first time.

Recent work
Dream & Believe Sports Complex, Evans City, PA: a 36,000 square foot Olympia Steel building with an indoor turf field and pickleball courts. Rise designed the column foundations, perimeter stem walls, strip footings and a slab on grade for athletic loading.
